LIFE Programme

LIFE Programme

The LIFE Programme - pronounced [Laïfe] or [Lif] - is the Financial Instrument for the Environment.

In practical terms, what does it represent?

Since its inception in 1992, the LIFE Programme has enabled the European Commission to support projects in favour of the environment and the climate, divided into 3 main areas:

  • Environment and rational use of resources

  • Nature and biodiversity

  • Environmental governance and information

As it is part of the European strategy supporting biodiversity (Birds Directive, Habitats Directive, Natura 2000 sites), the LIFE Avaloirs Project falls more specifically in the priority area "Nature". It promotes the implementation of concrete conservation actions in support of endangered species and environments on a continental scale.
